Where Wild Flowers Grow -- Valentines Video with Song!

    My wife Darlene and I bonded many years ago while backpacking in the Wind River Range not far from the Teton Mountains. Afterwards I wrote the song "Where Wild Flowers Grow" which I dedicated to her. The words to the song follow. (Click on the link for video & music.)

   Where Wild Flowers Grow
(A Hiker's Hymn for Darlene)

1)  Wild flowers don't grow in window sills,
Natural beauty rarely occurs in a city,
Lace up your boots, let's for a walk,
Out where crazy trees, grow from naked rock.
Out there we'll find wind and rain,
Open skies with clouds and stars,
Let down your hair feel the blow,
Take off your shirt feel the cold.

 2)  Sky pilots grow on mountain tops,
Above timberline fragrant prayers eddy,
One foot step at a time on a narrow trail,
Up where lupine blanket hidden meadows,
Out there we'll find lakes and streams,
Glaciers melting under a summer sun,
Stretch out, lay down, with your love,
Feel the warmth of ancient stone;

3)  Columbines lift white heads on slender stalks,
Our packs now grow lighter daily,,
When we no longer count the miles,
We'll find our camp in sunset's flaming eye;

4) Well, wild flowers don't grow in window sills,
Natural beauty rarely occurs in a city,
Lace up your boots, let's go for a walk,
Out where crazy trees grow from naked rock,
Come on now, lace up your boots, let's go for a walk,
Out where crazy trees, grow from naked rock;

    A second marriage for both of us we've lived many changes and have five grandsons all total. Both being human beings naturally there's been some ups and downs.  Darlene normally edits my work. While reviewing one of my blogs we were discussing a section when she remarked; "I know who you are!" Meaning she knows what I value in life.

Happy Valentines Day Darlene -- Love You!

        Still together after many adventures and following through with that which happens to all of us, if we live long enough, growing together into old age.

Ps: I had help with this video. Most of the pictures I had taken of the trip were long gone, although they could be hiding in boxes in the basement. My friend Lee's son, Eric backpacked through the Wind River Range this summer. Eric shared many of his pictures with me so that I could put this video together. (Below is a picture of Eric in the Wind River Range.)  Most of the beautiful wild flower pictures came from the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado web site. I checked with a ranger who confirmed they were in the public domain and could be used in this blog.

Thanks Eric!
